Hello friend,
Fall has arrived! I’m filled with the realization that 2020 narrows to an end! What a year it’s been! Right?
A change of season always leaves me looking around at what I have...what can I re-do, refresh, or restore?
This vintage, wicker rocker is a favorite re-do! I’m a champion of refreshing what you already have!
The wicker rocker is now refreshed in paint of a blue and green mix, paint I already had sitting around. I also already had the seat cushion and pillow featuring turquoise coral. The only thing I added was the pink floral pillow from the boutique.
I usually wouldn’t add such a complex mixture of patterns together, but these work perfectly! The simpler, coral pillow grounds it, with the pink floral pillow taking center stage on the complimenting colors of the chair cushion.
Corners in your home are hidden gems; we sometimes forget to make the most of them! Now living in Hawaii, I’ve created this corner with an ocean theme to relax and feel the trade winds blowing through fall’s open windows. Your corner space may be filled with plaids and cozy, earthy colors...like these pillows from the boutique.
No matter where one may live, the fall season begs for decorative blankets and begins snuggle season. I love these new arrivals in the boutique, of artisan crafted blankets, handmade on a New Jersey Farm.
These first weeks of September, look around your home...at the corners. Have you made the most of them? Sometimes, with the slightest shift in furniture, and decor you already have, you can create a “feels like new” space! Corners are small, and it takes less to make them your “perfect” new, little space! Much less daunting than an entire room!
New ideas for a new season! Here’s to creating corners!
Happy autumn beginnings,

]]>Hello, friend!
As Halloween comes and goes, you may want to dress your door with something new for Thanksgiving!
Here’s a step by step using fall florals, but you can apply these principles anytime of the year!
When you are creating florals for outside, don’t think expensive. Think about colors and stylings that will pop from the curb.
There are so many “welcomes” for your front door besides using wreaths. Today, we’re going to use a basket. I picked it up at a flea market. Things like this are usually easy to find. You just need a flat back on whatever hosts your Thanksgiving florals.
You’ll find some great baskets for this in the boutique! You can use it for every season, and it’s so worth the investment! Wind and weather don’t bother these, as they do a wreath. And they are such a fresh, natural welcome piece. Using a basket also means you don’t have to have a lot of crafty experience or talent. You can almost drop a handful of whatever you’ve collected for the season, into the basket, and do very little arranging!
Let’s get started!
This is the autumn gathering I collected for my basket. A mix of slender blooming stems, stems with pods, Cattails, and Sunflowers. All the fall colors, and I didn’t put anything in my basket to arrange them upon. I literally dropped them in. But you could use floral foam as necessary for your basket.
For this style arranging, you need taller stems, medium stems, and shorter stems. Vertical style blooms, something in between like the pods I used, and then a spreading style-like a Sunflower bloom.
I dropped my tallest stems into the left hand corner. This is a fan shaped style, that makes an arrangement look fresh and carefree-without looking so “fixed.” It mimics the way in which wind blows tall stems in nature. So, we are going from left to right, with our top height on the left, going to our lowest height on the far left. Tallest first, on the left:
Next, add the medium height as filler for the middle of the basket and over to the left.
Then add a group of Sunflowers that come on one stem. That’s all you need. Sunflowers can quickly take center stage, so you only need this stem of several. They bend well, so you can drop them over the basket, in order to get that over-flowing look that reminds us of bountiful at Thanksgiving. Use these same principles in other seasons, just different colors and flowers or stems.
After that, add your medium flowers behind those front, drooping Sunflowers. I added the orange Cattails to bring in the color orange. They also create a nice vertical behind the Sunflowers.
I also placed them extending out from the far right.
Next, I added seed pods in red.
And then I added them, in purple, on the left.
I added a burlap bow, tied loosely, to top off the left side, and anchor it slightly.
Here it is. Now, remember, you can apply all these principles, and use the same basket for every season. You want to end up with a carefree, natural, look that slightly mimics the way the wind blows stems, and causes them to lean over.
Head on over to the boutique for your basket, and tag me on Instagram with what you create! I can’t wait to see it!
Here’s a thought for today:
Happy Golden Moments as November arrives!
From me. To you. Xoxo

]]>Create your fall tablescape with these new ideas from the blog post, “Your Autumn Table” by designer, Nan Riddle, on her home and lifestyle blog “Live Beautiful Inside Out” on Lemons Plus Life.
]]>Hello friend,
You can make any table look gathering ready with some of these simple ideas! There’s no better time to bring earth’s treasures to your table. Make it festive, inviting, full of charm, elegant, or an earthy reminder of simple gifts.
What I love about this place setting isn’t just the neutral mix of naturals, but I love the greenery, with leather wrapped around it, and the cinnamon sticks!
You could also use a jute string to gather it all together. The greenery could be an evergreen, fern, or even an herb, like Rosemary, for a fragrant invitation to the coming meal.
My very fave part is that you could take the cinnamon, as pictured here, and sprinkle it on your white tableware for added presentation! That’s the exclamation detail on this idea! And it’s so autumn or Holiday fragrant!
Notice the pine cone, cream pillar candles, and cinnamon, in the oblong centerpiece tray, behind the place setting. It’s full of simple gifts that bring chic and cozy to the table focal point. Use one of our trays, from the boutique, to add your candles, cinnamon, and pine cones to it.
Falling for this idea of using a checkered, gingham, or Buffalo Check napkin at each place setting. A gold, fall leaf is added to the string tied gathering of silverware, topped with a small pastry. You could also top it with a small pine cone, small cluster of grapes, a larger acorn, or small, autumn feathered craft bird. The ideas are endless to create that small, WOW detail on top of the gathered silverware!
Simple. Elegant. In white or cream. With touches of nature’s brown in leaf, acorns and berries. The cream pumpkins add such a serene touch. I’ve often wondered if this is the way to cool down any family drama at the fall table. It’s so soothing and tranquil. Maybe your guests will be too?!?!
Name tags for place settings on the pumpkin stem. Love! And it’s just soooo easy!
Everything doesn’t have to be in autumn colors! Notice how the white plates pop, and the natural energy the artful, green stems give, placed in a carefree manner, on each plate.
That stemware stored away...get it out! Beautiful, meaningful, family heirlooms, and vintage stemware bring the WOW to any table gathering all year round. The kids feel all fancy! The adults notice the meaning, the elegance, and the charm.
Layering brings its own special kind of charm. I love the cottage vibes this layering has with the varied china patterns nesting upon one another, and the cream pumpkin is the season’s topping.
You could use this idea in every season...even using different china each time to create the place settings, and even have different china at each place setting.
Layering saves space on your table. Varying the patterns, colors, shapes and sizes in your layering creates a chic, cozy feel because it avoids too much symmetry.
I hope this gives you a few more ideas and tips for your autumn table in creating a warmth that has your signature on it!
Something to think about:
Trees are fearless. Nature’s wisdom to ponder.
Happy tablescaping!

What Will Your Welcome Look Like?
Whether you have a porch or not, there’s always a front door. And what to do with it? What’s your “welcome” style?
I seem to always be watching for a favorite front porch and discovering the many ways we welcome people into our home. From front porch, to front door.
This is one of my favorites. It just inspires you to run home and do something brand new on your own front porch or door!
Over the years I’ve hung wreaths, flower baskets and lots of different things. I wanted to share with you one of my very favorite front door DIY EASY projects! Here’s the fall version:
Start with an old rake...just the end. Pictured here are a few silk vines with berries woven through the rake prods, and for that fall burst of color, Bittersweet is added. All in freestyle. As if it just happened there. No glue or attachment is necessary. You let the rake prods hold it all in place. Tie some raffia, rope or ribbon around the vase, and you have a chic and natural welcome for your front door.
Use it all year by simply changing out the colors and/or florals and vines you add to it.
In the spring, add Forsythia stems...whether real or silk. They are a long stem, whispy, free flowing floral, and will work great in this door welcome for a natural style “Hello!” Yellow is a color that pops, so you’ve added instant charm and curb appeal to your welcome home with this floral. Just weave them into the rake’s prods as you did before.
You may want to add flowers or foliage that last season to season. Magnolia stems and florals are a perfect choice!
Whether you use fresh or silk, magnolia stems match any style, color and season, so they are a great choice! Whatever floral, foliage or vines you decide to use, be sure it doesn’t look “fixed.” You want a natural, free look, so avoid any symmetry or trying to match up sides. Let it reflect the many ways in which nature and flower gardens flow into space, untamed and generous.
When you come home, or guests walk through your front door, the first thing our senses take in is the fragrance. What fragrance makes you feel a sense of home? You may vary it from season to season, but I am featuring our “Mulled Cider” Candle, from the boutique, in this blog. It’s such a simple, abundant fragrance of cozy, family, and quiet moments- all coming to life when it’s lit.
Your “welcome style” welcomes home not just your guests, but you-and your family. I always encourage clients to think about what makes them feel on top of life, unstressed, empowered, and at peace when they walk into their home...through their front door. What will make it feel like home...your haven, sanctuary or oasis?
Featured here is a throw pillow from the boutique. I wanted you to see the uncluttered, crisp and serene power of using white in your decor. If you want to create a room, corner, bench or bed that lends an instant, soul soothing quality, looks uncluttered, and clean-this is the color to add. I have a collection in the boutique “Relaxing. Airy. Refreshing. Home.” Everything we design for that collection is meant to bring that crisp, uncluttered and serene charm to your home with touches of inspiration added to each product. What helps you “breathe?”
I would also encourage you to stand just inside your front door. Where do your eyes land first? What feeling does it give to you? Do you like it? If not, change it now. After you breathe in your home’s fragrance, where your eyes land first, will play a part in your welcome home everyday and the mood it sets for you.
Do you need for your eyes to land on something serene and quiet, like this art canvas from the boutique, or something bright with energy?
Like this fall foliage arrangement, rising from a clear vase, bursting with seasonal color and energy. Your eyes take it in first. It’s the exclamation accent for the room.
Or perhaps you need something more in the middle. Soft accents in color and simple design, like these throw pillows from the boutique. There’s an ambiance of comfort and coziness that comes with an intentional grouping of throw pillows, when your eyes travel to a sofa, bench or gathering area first.
Sometimes we place a table in our entryway. If you have one, what’s the first thing you see there? Why not make it inspire you, like our exclusive art prints in the boutique?
Or a wooden or glass decorative tray to drop your keys on, that expresses your story and reminds you of all your gifts in life?
It’s time for you to go find that old rake, gather your flowers, stems or vines, and create your front door welcome. I’d love to see what you create. Tag us on Instagram @lemonspluslife.
Then, stand just inside your front door. Breathe it in. Then pick out one of our candles from the boutique to bring a fresh, new fragrance into your home.
Last, for this blog, where do your eyes land first when you walk into your home? Make it your top priority for that spot to be just what you need, to set the mood you want to feel, when you come into your own welcome home. See something you liked here? Get it today! It’s FREE shipping fast! Browse the boutique for what creates your unique welcome! I’m so thrilled we shared this time today!

]]>Welcome to Lemons Plus Life! This welcome blog has some helpful tips to begin creating a home and lifestyle of living beautiful from the inside out! Read on and turn up your glow! Xoxo Nan@lemonspluslife
]]>
Hello my friend!
i can’t tell you how thrilled I am to meet you here! Welcome to Lemons Plus Life! I hope you’ll find helpful tips here, on the blog, about living beautiful from the inside out in your home and lifestyle!
This Welcome Blog will give you a few helpful tips about home decor and decorating, as well as adding to your happiness lifestyle.
It matters what you surround yourself with in your home and life. You’ll notice that many of the products I create, or curate, are designed to help you tend your soul. Home should be your haven, even if it’s only a corner you create, where you intentionally care for your inner well-bring. Yes, you matter that much. Over your schedule, your work, the kids...even your hopes and dreams.
When I designed this pillowcase for the boutique, I made sure I ordered one for myself!!!! Oh, the Zzzzzz’s.
Always add something to a room that’s a surprise. Something that catches the eye that one wouldn’t expect. Here’s a few examples:
This throw pillow is one of my new designs in the boutique and a bestseller! These 16 X 16 pillows are totally washable and wrinkle resistant! And they bring out a chuckle every time!
Who would expect creative shelving like this? Or make it simple, by adding something one might expect in a different shape, place or color. The quickest room re-do comes with throw pillows on a sofa, or a throw at the end of a bed, a tapestry on a wall, a statement shower curtain for the bath, or a canvas print or art print you might build a room around. Here’s some examples:
In a room of all naturals, this mustard print throw is a sunny surprise and burst of serene energy!
This typography art print, available in the boutique, is so popular! It’s one of my favorite art prints I’ve created. Wildflowers are such an expression of freedom, and the inspiring script fits the art perfectly! It’s so easy on the budget. Offered as an 11X 14 print, and ready for you to frame, it’s only $19.99!
Whether you want to build a room around a print or canvas, or add it as an exclamation mark on a space, we have a growing line of wall art that both inspires your life and adds beauty or wonder to your room. As an artist, I design these, creating graphics and typography, or with my photography art and painting.
Sometimes it takes a single piece to center and ground the room, to which everything else flows around. Or sometimes, a room calls for smaller pieces, like a gallery wall of prints grouped together. Most importantly, whatever you add to your home, it should tell your story and express you, your family, and what you love or find inspiring!
New to the boutique is my daisy art canvas. From small to large sizes, it just fills up a room with happiness! Imagine the world, if daisies grew to be trees!
Never underestimate the power of fresh flowers in your home. That bouquet you can pick up at the grocery store, cut in your garden, twigs and branches you can gather from a tree, or single, large leaves from a plant...it’s worth your time. It’s an inexpensive way to renew a space for several days with so little effort. And it will make you smile and feel brand new!
Whether you drop a bouquet into a vase that’s full and overflowing like the above floral, or simple in design, below, with only a couple of stems...both design styles have their own artistry and beauty.
Take your bath from ordinary to an experience with one of our boutique shower curtains I’ve created and designed. The single, biggest change you can make to transform your bath decor is your shower curtain.
When you’re decorating a space, and all else fails, or you have that not quite finished area, that needs a little something, or one more thing, baskets are your go to. They add interest and texture. They are a no fail. Plus, practical. You can use them to store stuff! The ones shown in these photos, from the boutique, are handmade in Bali by cottage artisans.
When you are creating accents or vignettes in a space, think of arranging with odd numbers to avoid too much symmetry. There are three vases here. When you drop blooms in a vase, always use an odd number. If you are arranging items on a tray to create a vignette, think in terms of three. Example: a Candle, a book, a small vase with a single stem flower. The flower would be the tallest height, the candle the middle height, and the book your lowest height. Varying your height creates interest and that cozy feeling you enjoy creating.
This is one of my favorite trays in the boutique. Think about what you might arrange on it to tell your story. You might even add a photograph, candle and single stem in a vase.
Just a few fun basic tips to help you in your living beautiful from the inside out lifestyle! I am truly thrilled you are here!
Just one more thing. Stay connected here at Lemons Plus Life. We are better together. And the biggest change we can make, no matter the season we are in, is to live Grateful. Let’s start today. And if you’ve been doing that, well, let’s up our game. Together.
From me. To you.

]]>I love the country roads of old Florida leading to quaint small towns, the cutest shops & bistros, AND vintage treasures! Micanopy and Cedar Key are two of my favorites!
With plenty of benches and comfy pillows to just be still, surrounded by a downtown and homes from the 1800’s, it’s easy to let your imagination drift back to days gone by. Time just kinda comes to a stand-still sitting under the moss draped trees of Micanopy or basking in Cedar Key’s seaside views!
With the cutest shops just ready for the vintage lover...I am full of delight! Here’s a few of my latest treasures.
This vintage gathering bucket! I haven’t decided yet what I will do with it, but my first idea is to fill all things with flowers! Can’t you just picture Spring stems peering out of it!
I came across this old, redwood trellis with the perfect aged patina. I actually got two of them. I could use them for the obvious in the garden, but I want to do something more creative.
And then there’s this delightful treasure. A moss covered vase. I definitely see some spring blooms rising in a stately fashion to announce spring from this nature elegant vase.
You’ll have to check back in for the next blog to see what emerges with those vintage treasures as a before and after for some great diy ideas for you!
One of the home decor vibes i’ve found myself drawn to lately is a mix of elegant and rustic.
Of course, a stop at one of the wineries of old Florida is a must on the way home. After gathering up all these treasures, I’m thirsty! I love the Dakota Winery!
And a sunset over Payne’s Prairie is the perfect ending to a day full of all kinds of treasures!
Be sure to check back to see what these vintage treasures become!
Happy almost spring!
Live beautiful from the inside out,
Nan xoxo
]]>Did someone say “Come in in!” Could you enjoy this gracious veranda and vintage welcome on a front porch rocker sipping some southern, sweet ice tea!? I certainly could!
One of the things to be planning for the spring season is a porch swing or other kinds of comfy, charming outdoor furniture to refresh, expand, create or re-do your outdoor living space. Most companies are running great sales right now! So, it’s the perfect opportunity to get ahead, so that your outdoor living space is ready at the first hint of spring’s awakening!
It’s also a fabulous time to take a look at your front door. I love the pastel hue of the one on this welcoming entry. Simply changing the color of your front door, can transform the front of your home...whether a pastel hue or bold color. Why not be daring and experiment! It’s only a door. One flat surface to repaint if you aren’t happy. Going bold on this featured front door, black would be a traditional color that always works well, and would have popped on this home. A bold hue in a richer color tone would be a dark purple, and you could also try lavender as a pastel hue. Changing your front door color gives your outdoor welcome a quick refresh and an inexpensive update!
I wanted to share with you the quiet, nature inspired boldness of pairing green and purple together. These plaid valances are leaving me in a wow! And the ivy freehand over the milkwork adds to a light and airy vibe to any room.
Every color has its own hue of cozy, and purple never fails!
The two most endearing patterns to use? Stripes and florals. If you are wanting to add both the charm and cozy factor, add a touch of floral and a touch of stripes. Here, I am featuring it in purple and yellow, but you pick the color combo that best tells your desired mood in a room and your story. These are available in the boutique.
These glass decorative trays are the perfect accent piece for a room. I love the way the light touches them, and the colors glow and change with the light...a little differently each time. Perfect for jewelry or trinkets, to hold your perfume and lotion, as a serving piece or to solo on its own as your table centerpiece!
It’s time to add some fresh greenery with florals. Whether a simple vase of flowers or wall art as creative and complex as this one featured, fresh greenery and florals leave a garden inspired presence in the room and an aroma of charm.
There’s also a simple abundance in adding yellow and/or purple stems to these vintage wall art hanging vases that are new arrivals in the boutique.
Remember less is often best...especially when it comes to chic vintage style. Here, add a single stem, or two or three.
Let your creativity bloom in color...maybe even purple and yellow. And what if today, you gather a bouquet of this:
Plan to bloom, my friend! Do something about your growth. You are too precious to not become all you are meant to be.
Bring your story alive in your home with 1-3 pops of color that express you. Take a look at your front door. What colors arise in your mind. And don’t forget to check all the outdoor living sales, so that you are ready to flourish outside in spring breezes!
And remember, just because you don’t have all the answers, doesn’t mean you aren’t going the right direction!
Live Beautiful. Inside Out.

Add winter whites for a serene charm in the winter season along with a variety of textures and white florals. Simplify your home decor palette in order to refresh yourself in the winter season. Lemons Plus Life blog: “Live Beautiful From the Inside Out.”
]]>A new season begins, and it’s a great time to clean out the clutter and simplify. A quick way to do that is to decorate with winter whites, cream and neutrals. Think about different textures as well. They bring the simple charm of natural colors their serene energy.
Create a space just to relax. Even if it’s just a corner. Winter’s cloudy skies and long, cold days give you a great excuse to restore from within. Along with winter whites, naturals and a variety of textures, add some fresh white florals with a touch of simple greenery
I’ve also added fresh flower pots filled with white blooms of hydrangeas! It’s refreshing and bright!
Think creatively as well. One can add succulents to cream containers as pictured here. Look at containers you have with fresh eyes. A vintage cream pitcher or pot are often artistic enough in their own to add to a corner vignette or to fill with fresh or silk white blooms as a statement piece.
There’s something about simplifying your home palette that puts your priorities in order.
I hope that you’ll savor the wonder in every moment! Whether it’s the magical intricacy of a falling snowflake or sunlight that glances through the bare limbs of a tree.
Breathe in winter’s calm, my friend,
Nan

Discover a garden inspired Christmas as Nan Riddle, Designer and Artist of Lemons Plus Life, shares her favorite table centerpiece and natural ways to make your Christmas Decor bloom in a fresh, new way in your signature Christmas home story!
]]>Merry Christmas! I wanted to share with you my fave table centerpiece ever! I placed it all on a ceramic palm leaf I found in a vintage store on an old Florida road. Tall, statuesque cedar trees welcome guests, Paperwhite Ziva Bulbs bring serenity and hope, as well as their glass vases making the arrangement airy and refreshing. I added a center candle for the season’s glow and vintage, round ornaments in sage and turquoise to add nostalgic charm.
This year, as I began to decorate, a garden theme just seemed to arise! I love when you’re decorating, and a theme naturally takes shape. I think it’s an expression of the story within us becoming part of the welcome home we are creating.
I began by adding White Hydrangeas. Fresh and cheery, they add a bright holiday welcome. The ladderback plant holder becomes a cheery garden spot, indoors, anytime of the year! This Christmas, I filled it with sage botanicals, white blooms and an evergreen so delicate it reminds me of air!
The traditional reds and greens of Christmas, for me, don’t express a Florida vibe, so I bring in turquoise, creams and soft sage. Our mantle is a soft escape of sparkling turquoise, cream, silver and our favorite seashells.
All of the blooms and white hydrangeas, I will be able to add to my outdoor flower garden when Christmas is over!
I’ve wondered why my Christmas decorating seemed to take on a gardening theme this year. And then I looked up, at a canvas print I had hung on the wall. It’s new, and available in the boutique.
It’s a picture of a vintage water jar I found in an abandoned garden beside a spring. Everything about it...delighted me. What a treasure! Looking back, I wish I had brought it home! Instead. I began photographing it. There’s such a rich story in it! This is my art design from the photograph “She Left Her Water Jar.” For me, it is a reminder of the woman at the well in the Gospel of John, who left her water jar upon meeting Jesus. It makes me think about what I might need to leave behind this Christmas in order to accept something new.
Whatever your beliefs may be, it’s a picture full of story...set in a garden. And that’s where I think this Christmas garden theme truly began.
This year, each room of my house, flung out in Christmas decor that’s garden inspired, seems to breathe with new life. Simple. Natural. Elegant.
It’s funny how simple things at Christmas can fill you with wonder and awe. As I was photographing this morning, I realized the morning light was touching this plant in an almost...magical way.
Simple leaves, resting...until the sunbeams touched them. Light is such an important part of our Christmas story, isn’t it? Twinkling lights we wrap around trees...we even talk about the ways in which people’s faces “light up.”
Perhaps this gardening theme means awakening and growth that only happens when it’s touched by Light. Light is always...ultimately Love.
Whatever your home story is this Christmas, I hope this has inspired you in some way. That you and I will find and be Light this Christmas, delight in the simple wonders and find the awe in moments of gathering with others when Lovelight touches the room.
And, perhaps it’s time for new growth and new blooms in our journey as we begin to dream our way into 2019!
May your days be merry and bright,
Nan
You will hear what you listen for...
]]>“Fall Welcome Home...Your Front Porch” home decor blog post by designer and artist Nan Riddle at Lemons Plus Life gives you inspiration and DIY decorating ideas for giving your front porch your signature welcome home for the autumn season!
]]>The leaves begin their flutter and the magic begins! The first fire, when you reach for a sweater, the aromas of chili cooking in your kitchen and chilly winds that call for your favorite fall scarf...and creating your Fall Welcome Home begins!
Inside and out...add plaids!
Nothing says cozy like fall and winter plaids! They are the signature design for the season. Available in the boutique, our fall plaid pillows bring a quick charm and refresh to your porch, sofa or bench!
A trip to the nursery for fall flowers, and gathering up some colorful twigs and branches from the outdoors will inspire you to add those plaids and get your front porch welcome ready!
Fall decor brings nature’s inspiration to the stage. This is the season to bring the freedom of a woodland, wildflower garden or harvest into your autumn pleasures. I’ve gathered up a few samples of front porches or entryways and my favorite fall decorating DIY for your front door.
Orange pumpkins add fall’s signature color, while white pumpkins with gold accents bring chic and elegance.
Decorative cabbage is like adding giant jewelry to your fall welcome home! Absolutely gorgeous, and in many regions of the USA it will last through the winter adding a charming accent long after the autumn season. It holds its own even after a snowfall.
Nothing pops like yellow chrysanthemums! You can never go wrong with these, no matter your decorating style! They last season after season, so when they finish and lose their flowers and leaves, cut them all the way back down, and when spring comes they put up green shoots again from their roots.
I have absolutely fallen in love with this idea of adding naturals from the season to a tote bag as part of your home decor, and the basket weave of this tote and autumn naturals added to it, takes center stage in this front porch vignette!
My favorite fall front door welcome accent this season and a fabulous DIY that you can do! Notice how the berries and natural elements are free in form...imitating a natural woodland or wildflower garden with no symmetry. That’s what makes it so charming with a country elegance to it!
Another simple to add DIY welcome mat! Most craft stores, specialty boutiques and even Wal-Mart are carrying these legs and feet that you can add to your front door mat! Delightful and fun, this adds a sense of adventure to your porch seasonal decor!
With so many new arrivals in the boutique, you’ll want to check out our new fall gifts, decor, accessories and t-shirts! Here’s a few samples to flutter by you!
Be inspired, my friend. It’s time to do your flutter! And do it in color!

Every living space, whether indoor or outdoor, game room or garden, begins with a vision for the style, ambiance and vibe you want to create...all with your signature swag. So, three of these pictures are where I'm at in my gardening. One is the fairy tale vision I have in my mind. Can you tell which one it is? The lower right one of course. Will I accomplish that this summer? In my dreams. But, it's what will keep me picking up the shovel, finding the next great plant, creating walkways, paths, gardening groups and pots, looking for the first bloom and excited about a single brand new leaf. See how important that vision is?
And then I happened upon this front porch and its perfect view! This view was my next summer romance, and I'm still dreaming about it. It reminded me that sometimes we can get so caught up in how to decorate and all the stuff of life, that we can simply miss the view from our own front porch. So, as you read this blog, and all those ideas are coming into your mind, don't get so caught up in it all, that you miss the view. Now, to be honest I was really thirsty at this point and tired of being lost, so it could be dehydration talking. I smiled in my selfie in case I needed to look good on my "gone missing" posters.
Perfect summer t-shirt for the girl who doesn't even try to look like she has it all together! Add some pearls, and they'll call you: Darlin'.

]]>
I wondered if there are only 4 seasons to the year when I happened upon this front porch and saw the sign "Simplify". Maybe there's a fourth season. The season of "Simplify" that comes as spring begins to wave her farewell and summer hasn't yet entered the stage.
After all, with summer around the corner bringing dreams of the beach, summer vacation and long languid evenings of outdoor freedom, why would we want to complicate things? Summer is when we'll want to spend the most time with family, take some new adventures and simply enjoy the moments of sunny days and childhood ways.
So, what do we do amidst the season of "Simplify"?
Home decor using neutrals, whites and a few color pops as your heart desires brings on an automatic serene and simple. If you can only make small changes, then do something as simple as looking at the throw pillows on your sofa or bed. What could you change or add to reduce a busy feeling? Sometimes we mistake needing more stuff around instead of using a variety of textures. Look at the picture. Notice the different textures in the simple scene, yet it is calming and peaceful. There's the fur rug on the floor, wood, floral print on the bedding, plant texture and the sleek curves and lines of the antique clock...yet it all produces a serene place to relax. Use the 2 or 3 simplify! When you add accents to a table, such as in this picture, shelf or any space-think in terms of 2 or 3 in a grouping. If one object is larger or taller in size than another, you can often use 2 items in a group...as in this picture. Use 3 objects in a grouping where they descend in height, are all the same shape, are three different shapes, or tell a story that you want to share in your decor. Rarely, if ever, would it be necessary to place more than 3 items in a small grouping. In decorating and flower arranging, one often arranges with odd numbers...not even numbers. Simplify. Put the extra items in a tote for now and store it away.
Add a live plant or artificial plant/greenery to every room. Even if you have to remove something, it will be worth it. Plants bring a light and airy "aliveness" to a room. They change the ambiance, and real plants help to clean the air that your breathe. They fill up space in a clean, chic and simple way while a mirror to the outdoor's signature color: Green.
Here's what I love about this outdoor living area and it's a great DIY idea. Notice just above the tables and the bench with brown pillows...the white limb/stick privacy "fence". This could be added to any area for privacy by simply finding the sticks with a diameter you prefer, cutting them all the same height or even leaving them natural length, and spray painting them or just leaving them naturally nature's color. Here they are leaning against a wall, but you could get creative by placing them in pots, just lining them up and sticking them in the yard, or other creative ways. This is also a real mix of furniture and accessories that creates a simple feel. Sometimes when things get to matched up, brand new and meant for a specific purpose the look comes off too structured and not simple at all. Just something to keep in mind, even if you need a little more structure than the picture. The white theme is carried throughout the scene in both the tables, privacy fence and the plant pots...which creates a sense of less clutter, unity, and harmony...even though the space is filled with all things green, growing and ready for summer!
Usually when we think of pattern, we think of busy. But that's not the case when you add pattern to a solid color...and especially a neutral color or white. Take in the patterns added to this white palette...a round wreath in green for a color pop that mimics the spring and summer season, the mandala pattern in a soft tan on the square pillow and the chevron pattern in tan on the shelving storage boxes. Imagine walking in from the outdoors after a stressful day...it simply states: B.R.E.A,T.H.E.
Long summer days also call for a place to retreat, to be still and calm. What better place than your bedroom. The neutrals in this bedroom give it a "spa" or "resort" feel as well as the plumpness of the furniture and accents...notice the chair cushions, throw pillows and headboard of the bed. It all sends the message of "luxury". What takes it over the top is the mirror leaning against the wall and sitting on the floor. It opens up the room for airy extra space visually. Create your own signature "resort and spa" feel in your bedroom.
I was working with my daughter on her master bedroom. After we cleaned everything out of the room, and the palette was empty except for the comforter she had, we went to work. Think about everything that you have...even in other rooms. What pillows can you add/take away to give the bed cleaner-simpler lines. How can you create a feeling of "luxury" with what you have...whether by plumpness of the items, color, texture, shape or size. We realized as we were doing her bedroom, that simply turning some of her pillow shams to the back side gave us the color that we needed without having to go and buy new shams.
Here, you are still working with the 2 or 3 simplify. On your bedding, and in the room, use only 2 or 3 colors/hues. With an exception of one accent like a plant or flower arrangement, art piece or photograph that gives a color pop or tells your story. Add a plant to your bedroom...whether live or real. And every bedroom needs a large mirror somewhere in the room as a centerpiece for a wall and to give the feeling of a larger space.
Summer is on it's way, and a time to be free of fussiness! It's a time for flower stems in Mason Jars, antique jars and vases or your grandmother's old drinking glasses. Pick up some burlap to use as table runners for summer picnics, the dinner table, or as place mats.
I am in love with our new wall art "Our Old Front Porch", designed by Lemons Plus Life, that features mill work on a vintage home's front porch in southern, sunny Florida! This is a great example of designing a room around a bold statement...in this case a large, canvas print, with a simple subject and neutral colors. The bold statement comes not from colors nor a variety of visuals, but by the simple repetition of curves and lines. That's a simple statement of everyday vintage life, that shows up bold in a room & is an accent for any decor style.
Eucalyptus provides respiratory relief and may help you breathe easier. Purchase it dried and add a bundle to a simple vase...or add a sprig or two to several vases. It's chic, simple appearance adds a soft green to your decor that's just right for late spring and summer!
It's here! Late spring and a summer season just around a country lane sprinkled with daisies! It's not too soon to begin planning some fun adventures! What are some things you've never done before as a family? Is it time to gather some fun summer recipes or recipes for fruity drinks? Is it time to put the wildflower seeds in the ground where you live? Find something new in your area to do, a new path to take and new sights to see. Having the best summer ever begins with a few simple plans now. Remember, you are creating your story and your family's story. All too soon those long summer nights will end, and you'll wish for one more day.
Make every moment count. Shake off winter. It's your time to bloom. Simplify. Think about the memories you'll most want to look back on when summer ends, and makes those the most important things on your list now as you ready for sunny days.
Every day is a gift. Open it. Claim the wonder and live it.
Sunny Blessings,
Nan

Spring has arrived in her vibrant wardrobe of color and charm! If you're wondering what colors to choose for a spring refresh in your home or wardrobe or how to lift your spirits and turn up your glow now that spring has turned on all of her charms...just look outdoors. Take your color cues from the hues of blue skies, spring gardens of red, yellow, purple, orange, greens and renew your mind and spirit by spending some time outdoors.
Begin your spring styling from your sidewalk to your front porch. Give yourself a great attitude boost and beautify your lifestyle by starting spring with refreshing and decorating your porch, deck or outdoor living spaces.
I've gone porch hoppin' to bring you some inspiration. Vintage homes always supply a bountiful welcome and lend creative ideas for outdoor gatherings on your own front porch or outdoor living space. Here's some of my favorites this spring...
I love the gathering space created on this vintage front porch! Every color pops on the white background and the cobalt to navy blue hue painted on the woodwork around the front door and window lends the dramatic touch for the pastel greens and turquoise of the gathered chairs. Topped off with accents of potted plants, this is a vibrant yet serene welcome to the neighborhood and friends to enjoy springtime breezes.
From the third story fish scale siding to the home's clapboard siding, this vintage home turns up all the spring charm to welcome in a new season! The green palette mimics springs signature color and provides a serene backdrop for the accents and white wicker furniture on the front porch as well as the dark green wood flooring of the porch. Whether used outdoors or on the walls of an indoor room, this soft green is like a breath of fresh air in a home because it mirrors a signature color in nature. And notice the fresh bark in the flower beds. Nothing makes your flower beds look more polished and complete than adding fresh bark around your plantings and pots.
Add accent pieces to your home living spaces, inside and outside, that tell your story or express your life. This sign "Simplify" gives us a glance into the heart of this home and the family living here. The white wicker pops on this dark green flooring and against the soft green clapboard walls, but whatever outdoor furniture you add to your signature space, complete it with comfy pillows that not only match your color scheme but offer their own welcome of comfort and long, breezy spring conversations.
I've never seen anything that wasn't more beautiful and more welcoming when flowers and plants were added to it! This front door welcome features pots with annuals and ferns. Notice the front door and what was used instead of a wreath this spring. This is a great DIY anytime of the year. Here, they chose a rabbit for the spring season, but you could draw and color in whatever theme fit your current season. Gather a framed chalkboard and some colorful chalk or sidewalk chalk. Make a simple outline and color in. Simple is the key here. Don't get caught up in perfect. Attach to a ribbon and hang.
A vintage tricycle expresses family and heirloom memories.
Is it time to get creative with your walkways or maybe create a new path in your garden? I saw this one and fell in love with the creativity, colors, angles, edges, design and story. This walkway celebrates life with the sun in the middle and the moon shaped stepping stones on the side. The display of colors and textures give it personality and a sense of beauty and adventure.
We decided to completely refresh our outdoor living space by adding vertical gardens to our usual pots full of flowers and foliage. We've added succulents to our vertical gardens, because they are gorgeous, offer a multitude of textures and color, are low maintenance and need little water. We love the effect! These vertical planters are available in the boutique, so you can get started! Tap the pic to get started!
Cloth Pots and Vertical Planters create "Air Pruning?" This process is only possible with cloth pots. . When plants' roots come in contact with the fabric, they are forced to penetrate and grow into the breathable fabric, causing the root tips to dehydrate and branch.when root tips meet the air on the outside. This causes "air pruning." This pruning process forces lateral branching of desired fibrous feeder roots. These fibrous roots are more productive in the uptake of water and nutrients, resulting in a more vigorous and healthy plant that utilizes the entire root for optimum plant growth.Cloth Pots and Vertical Planters give the plants more oxygen which facilitates nutrient uptake.Nutrients are vital to healthy plants. Nutrient absorption will only occur when oxygen is present. So, when you hear someone say the primary reason of oxygenating the root zone is to keep the plant from drowning, that is not necessarily true… It also keeps the plants from starving. Our cloth pots and planters help you keep those roots oxygenated and absorbing lots of nutrition for vigor and health.Cloth Pots are Eco-Friendly and made from 100% recycled PET plastic bottles.Obviously, using plastic pots not only restricts the oxygen and nutrient flow to your plants, but it creates more plastic waste that may end up in landfills or worse, the ocean floor. Our pots are utilizing plastic bottles that have already been used, and are recycled into a soft, permeable felt-like fabric that can be used over and over again! I use them and just throw them in the washing machine between uses to rid them of any dirt and root tips that may be trapped inside. They come out clean and ready for your next planting! Tap the pics to begin your garden!
Easy to use, light weight, high quality, non-toxic, feels like soft felt.
Approx size: L 33 in X W29 in X 2mm thick.
The pockets are 9 inches W X 7.5 inches deep.
Whether potted, in our vertical planter, indoor or outdoor, succulents can be found everywhere in garden sections, and offer low maintenance in many colors, textures, shapes and sizes. Little water is required and each one has its own personality. These are just a few samples of our favorites.
This last one called "Mother-in-Laws Tongue" is striking in a pot both indoors and outdoors. Dramatic in color, shape and height it's maintenance free and requires little water.
Need a refresh? Just look around at the colors spring offers. Why not go bold in room color or with your accent pieces using the hues of our favorite spring floral bouquet we gathered up for you to see and be inspired.
Think Pink! Combine it with neutrals and browns for a stunning effect!
The purples and lavender hues in spring's wisteria are a serene spring floral color to add to a palette of white, gray or even black in your accents, or use the color for your walls and add accent pieces in white, gray and black. Follow up with a touch of soft yellow and your friends will never want t leave your home!
Get creative! Look around at what you have to hold the cut stems coming from your spring garden. Experiment. There's very little that doesn't look lovely when it's filled with flowers!
Vintage pieces? Old china, pots, pitchers, cups...there's an array of dishes and accessory pieces that look beautiful filled with a bouquet of flowers.
Rustic pieces? Old pails and watering cans are the perfect companion to accentuate the delicate nature of flowers, because they don't compete with the beauty of the blooms.

On of the best things we can do in any season to refresh our life is to start a journal. Record insights and reflections from the day. Record your prayer life or things you might want to remember from your daily devotions or Bible study. Write quotes or famous phrases in it that speak into your life in that moment. Record your poetry, song lyrics or other moments of creativity. Make notes as you read in a book of things you want to remember. As the days and months pass, you'll have something to look back through to see how you've grown, how far you've come on your journey and celebrate triumphs. I have a beautiful new leather journal for you to begin recording your reflections that features the Tree of Life. Tap the pics to start your journal!

Let's get some lemonade and settle back on my front porch! Winter's waving its final farewell, and I'm dreaming of spring! How about you? Are you longing for sunlit days, greening trees, and flower bulbs pushing their way through the darkness? Today's blog will fill you with some springtime inspiration to refresh your home living spaces and help you to imagine some new looks and colors in your spring home decorating as well as some light and airy fashions from my boutique that turn up your glow! It's time for you to take a few moments to relax and be inspired, because the best life is a life lived beautiful from the inside out!
Put your feet up and breathe in some fresh air. I'm inviting spring with this vintage container filled up with some new spring plants. Notice how the purple velvety leaves of the plant in the back of the container provide the perfect color pop for the greenery in front and the red cushions on my wicker furniture. Purple is one of spring's fabulous colors! As you begin to fill your outdoor/indoor pots with spring plantings, be sure to add pops of purple. It's dynamic and mimics spring's glorious range of colors.
A vintage way to add your pops of purple color, is to use pansies in your springtime welcome! In many parts of the country they last until June, and are one of the happiest flowers in the garden's blooming treasures.
Lavender is another great color pop for purple in springtime and summer as well. I found this vintage lavender in front of a white picket fence in St. Augustine, FL. As you begin to plan your springtime welcome, just as you have a personality, so does each flower. Pansies grow in a fairly tight bunch and have a more manicured appeal. Notice how the blooms of this lavender grow up and tall-in a freestyle form. Your garden, walkway, pots on the porch and in your home will tell a story and be a signature expression of you. Choose one style, or mix them together. For instance, with these two styles, if you choose to mix them, place the lavender in the back and the pansies in the front of a pot or gardening vignette.
This month, standing at the edge of picket fences and nostalgic homes, I found some dream worthy styled front porches to welcome spring. We can often get inspired looking at different homes....noting details we like of the landscaping, color, design, welcome aspect etc. Sometimes we can take the exact idea, or it provides a "launching space" for our own idea to apply in the home in which we live. Get ready to dust off the cobwebs of your front porch and be ready to get inspired. Here's my favorite front porch find on a cozy cottage!
I love the earthy base of colors in this front porch welcome. Spring has an abiding affection for the two main colors, green and orange. It's a stylish blend of nature's spring green and the sky's dynamic color pop of orange in sunrise and sunset. Pair these two colors on your porch, living space or any room of your home whether in accents, decor, furniture or go bold with the colors!
Every time I meet spring, it's love at first sight! These are some of the classic and cottage style homes I met this month...and it was love at first sight! They inspired me to do some rearranging in my own home. When spring love fever hits, the cheapest thing you can do to freshen up your home, is to rearrange the room(s) or even defined spaces...such as shelves, a corner, or a wall grouping. Let the inspiration bloom in you as you travel with me through these pictures into neighborhoods, down sidewalks, and onto the porches of these nostalgic homes.
If you're wondering what colors to add to freshen up for spring, just look at the colors that spring brings us! One of her favorites is the color of sun-soaked days! Birds build nests in the spring, and it's no wonder that we get ready to do some freshen-up "nesting" in the springtime as well.
Take spring's cue and add a touch of yellow to your living space...whether outdoor or indoor. A quick and easy way to give your space a new look, that isn't permanent or expensive, is with new throw pillows. Feather your nest with my new throw pillows! I've put together some great spring pillows to wake up your room with a new outlook. These Crazy About Daisies Throw Pillows are bright and sunny, with a retro daisy design. They can be mixed and matched, and compliment your happiness lifestyle!
I'm all about your glow inside and out! So, let's look at a few new spring fashions in the Lemons Plus Life Boutique. Light and airy, they are the perfect invitation to spring breezes and the casual relaxed style of spring. The spring accessories inspire every woman to live beautiful from the inside out.
Do you want to make a difference in the world this spring? I've designed an exclusive collection of fashion and accessories in order for us to make a difference together. Although I can't solve all of the pain in this world, I can do something. When an item is purchased from my exclusive fashion collection, the maker, who hand finishes it to completion, receives monetary compensation as well as literacy and math classes. With your shopping cart, the standard of living is raised for a family in third world poverty. Featured in this blog, is my "Love Heals" scarf. Gorgeous in it's graffiti vibe, it will compliment every solid color in your wardrobe and be a living message of the power of Love in our world today. Let's make a difference together today!
We've talked about your spring welcome and look beginning with flowers and the power of the color purple in your spring garden, rooms and decor. We sipped on the different personalities of flowers...from the manicured nature of pansies to the freestyle blooms of lavender...and how just as every flower has a personality-you do as well. How will you express that in your garden, porch and home this spring? Your home expresses your personality and tells a story...let it be yours. We looked at my favorite front porch welcome and the delightful pairing of green and orange in your home palette. We went on a tour together to get inspired by looking at vintage homes leading us down a path of nostalgia to dreams of creating anew in our own space. Remember that the least expensive way to create a brand new look in spring, is to simply rearrange a room...a corner...a shelf. We shared how the sunny color of yellow mimics spring and you got the first glance at my new Crazy for Daisies Throw Pillows. Looking through the Lemons Plus Life spring fashion arrivals you saw some breezy new possibilities for your spring wardrobe to light up your glow. We also have the chance to make a difference together with my new "Love Heals" scarf from my exclusive fashion design collection.
What's the final ray of sunshine to light up your spring beginnings to live beautiful from the inside out?
Live each day in every color! Celebrate in every hue, because there will never be another you and another day like today!

While snow may still cover the ground and your welcome space is bathed in neutrals, you can invite spring into your winter welcome by adding color through your decor accents, pillows and florals. Add a single pop of color to a space or add it in a set of three. Notice the three earthy colors featured on the back of this cottage...yellow, green and orange. All colors from nature, like these, are the perfect trio for the beginning of the transition from winter to spring. They make sense in your home because they add a gentle energy and mimic the colors that will gradually appear in spring's hues.
Sometimes we can try to "fill up all the space". Does that happen on your calendar sometimes...every square-each day-filled completely? It doesn't have to happen with your decor accents. Floral arrangements can add a simple, yet dynamic pop of color to a table or counter. Make yours elegant by leaving blank space in a clear vase when you add 1-3 stems to your vase. Choose a single color accent or more than one.
Gather a bunch of orange and yellow tulips and fill a cobalt blue vase for cheery and warm room ambiance and dynamic effect with the cobalt blue vases! These take center stage as a table centerpiece(s) or counter top accent and put the exclamation mark on the fact that spring is your thing! We also used cobalt blue wine bottles with 1-3 tulip stems per bottle to take the arrangement from charming to chic and sleek.
Simply add a throw to the end of your bed that compliments your current color scheme, but adds a pop of color that invites springtime living into your relaxing space. Mustard yellows and jewel tones are superb for this time between winter and spring. The pattern in the throw featured in the picture above also offers a pattern to give the room gentle energy and interest.
Our "Peacock" Throw is vibrant folded at the end of the bed or even spread out over the bed. Another great way to use it- as a quit DIY to liven up your bedroom- Hang it on the wall as a headboard for your bed. It's a jewel deal at $14.99!
Add color and nostalgic ambiance with floral throw pillows! I am seriously crushing on my new designs that have just arrived in the boutique with the trending Prairie Style. Reminiscent of simple days on the prairie, their design and colors are nostalgic yet offer pops of colors with a slight antique ambiance. These throw pillows are 16 X 16 and are totally washable!
All the different kinds of lettuce leaves do well in cold temperatures. Usually available at feed stores in February, plant these in pots on your porch so that they are protected in case of frost and to provide showy colors of green that send out that spring welcome to the season. You'll also get a head start on your healthy eating as these grow fast and continuously produce leaves for your salad pleasures. Additionally, on a porch if the temps drop unexpectedly, you can cover them for a night with garbage bags or sheets.
Just remember...perhaps it may look like nothing is happening right now as snow falls and winter chills freeze your energy and initiative. But what if this season is a time of preparation? What if the things you choose to do now will prepare you for planting "seeds", for growth, and for your season to "bloom" again in your own life's springtime. Because just as the Tulips will find their way out of the darkness, push up through the earth and into the sun to bloom again, so too, will you. Don't give up, my friend.
Time to do a little browsing and get the look! Add color. Add charm. Invite spring.Nan
]]>Time to add a hint of spring with some fresh spring flowers. They give a nod to sleepy winter, and then light up a room with their curves and colors.
I'm gathering up Hyacinths for my table featured arrangements. The aroma of Hyacinths is absolutely divine, and they look simple and elegant as your table centerpiece(s). Usually available at any grocery floral dept., the blooms last 1-2 weeks and then later in the season you can plant them in your outside garden. Even after the blooms are gone and the greenery seems to have died, you can plant the bulbs once the weather permits. Choose from white, pink or lavender to dress up your table in simple beauty and heavenly fragrance.
Breathe in our Lavender Bundles in the boutique, and gather them up for simple beauty and serene fragrance today.
Let your welcome BLOOM with tulips! We've featured yellow here in our vignette...because it's our favorite color. Choose your favorite color to be your hint of spring color pop to put your exclamation mark on those gray winter days. Tulips are usually available in grocery floral departments this time of the year.
Add some color dazzle by placing your tulips in cobalt blue vases. We've also used blue wine bottles for a more elegant effect of just 1-3 tulip stems.
We fall in love again and again with Pansies each year! They love cold weather! Dependent upon where you live, you may be approaching the time to buy and plant these floral jewels in containers on your porch. For curbside impact choose yellow, blue or a mix of the two. For close up dazzle, choose a single color or a mix like we've featured in this photograph.
A quick and easy way to dazzle up your bedroom in an instant. Add a throw to the end of your bed. Go bold with a color that's grabbed your attention. It's not forever, and you can change it out periodically or with each season to feel like you have a brand new bedroom!
Our Chiffon Scarves bring the beauty of the garden into your February with the featured color of red. Warm, chic yet light and breezy, check out the boutique for these scarves that will have everyone crushing on them!
Just because you can't see the sun in gray skies, doesn't mean it isn't shining. Just because you can't see the bloom today above the ground, doesn't mean the bulb isn't designing every petal underground. Just because cold days are leaving their exclamation mark today, winter never has the final say. Just as the earth will bloom fresh again in the appointed hour, so shall you, my friend. So shall you.
Dreaming of Spring,
Nan
